There aren’t many spinners to be found around these days... But I like to consider myself one of this rare breed!
I graduated from my Master's degree in Fashion Knitwear Design at Central St Martin's in London in 2013, after making the decision to leave my rural Suffolk home in favour of the bright lights of the city. But there was one thing I couldn't leave behind... My spinning wheel!
Spin City is my online fibre crafts business, where I make and sell luxurious hand-blended fibre batts, colourful rovings, unique resin drop spindles and hand spun and hand dyed yarns for knitting, weaving and embroidery. I also teach workshops in spinning, knitting, crochet, and weaving from my studio in the Suffolk countryside to large groups or on a one to one basis.
My background in the fashion industry has seen me create work for companies like Burberry, Mark Fast, DVF, Ports 1961 and Per Una for Marks and Spencers.
Spin City has recently been featured in publications including Knit Today, Simply Knitting, Simply Crochet, Mollie Makes, Yarn Maker and The Observer, while my spinning-inspired fashion designs have featured in international editions of Vogue, appeared on the catwalk at London Fashion Week, won awards and plaudits from the London Fashion Film Festival and The Knitting and Stitching Show.
Spin City has recently appeared at Wool Fest, WonderWool Wales, Fibre East and Yarndale, where I have taught teaching traditional handspinning and sold my colourful creations.
I love updating and pushing the boundaries of traditional crafts to create yarns and fibers that are modern, exciting and inspire you to pick up the loom, needles or hook!
I also love to play the mandolin, dance to 60's music, take long walks in the countryside, play lots of board games, visit family, birdwatch, go to folk festivals, bake cookies, paint, buy vintage clothes, and watch David Attenborough and period dramas!
